Thousands of OFWs needed in Libya. 2009-05-09

Thousands of Filipino migrant workers are needed to fill in vacancies in companies from various sectors in Libya, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported.

In a press statement, DOLE stated that for this year, 16,000 job opportunities are available for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the construction, oil and gas, hotels, and in the medical and other services sectors in Libya.

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) reported that the companies in Libya are currently recruiting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and are expected to hire more in the coming years.

The DOLE said the employment situation in Libya remains strong as the country is impervious to the harsh effects of the global crisis due largely to its oil resources. The country is in need of more foreign workers for its numerous development projects.

The Tripoli-based POLO is also looking up to opportunities for OFWs in Algeria, Chad, Malta, and Morocco particularly in hotel, oil and gas, and technical services sectors.

“The employment prospects in Libya and nearby nations are favorable for OFWs as they continue to be the preferred choice among foreign employers,” DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque said.
