Delegation of Italian mayors visits Kadhafi - Libyan leader Muammar Kadhafi, on Thursday received a delegation of Italian mayors, in Libya to take part in an international photo exhibition in Tripoli, the Libyan capital.
The exhibition, held first on the Italian Islands of Tremti and Ostica, is part of festivities initiated by Italy on the occasion of the first anniversary of Kadhafi's visit to Rome, the Italian capital, 10 June, 2009.

During their meeting in Sabha, Southern Libya, the Italian mayors expressed appreciation to the Libyan leader for his wisdom and vision on world issues.

They also hailed Kadhafi's role in promoting relations between Tripoli and Rome and highlighted the need to make the Mediterranean a sea of peace and benefit for its people.

The mayors said the Mediterranean sea should be free from war and should serve as a gateway for the consolidation of cooperation between the Italian and Libyan peoples.

The Italian mayors also renewed their pledge to cooperate with Kadhafi on the fate of Libyans deported during the colonial period. This follows a treaty signed by the two countries in 2008.

The mayors expressed their wish to carry out further DNA tests on residents of Tremti, Vavinana and Vayatis Islands with a view to identifying those who are descendants of the Libyan deportees.
